The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has named two distinguished engineers at NASA’s Glenn Analysis Heart in Cleveland AIAA Affiliate Fellows.
The grade of Affiliate Fellow acknowledges people who’ve achieved or overseen essential engineering or scientific work, carried out authentic work of excellent advantage, or have in any other case made excellent contributions to the humanities, sciences, or expertise of aeronautics or astronautics. To be chosen as an Affiliate Fellow, a person should be an AIAA Senior Member in good standing, with at the very least 12 years {of professional} expertise, and be advisable by three AIAA members.
L. Danielle Koch, aerospace engineer, performs analysis and academic outreach at NASA Glenn. Her 34-year profession at NASA has been devoted to conducting analysis for safer, cleaner, and quieter plane engines; high-performance air flow methods for spacecraft; and bio-inspired broadband acoustic absorbers. She has authored over 50 technical publications and has been granted three patents. Koch has been acknowledged for excellence in engineering and academic outreach with many awards, most lately named as one of many 2024 Girls of Distinction by the Lady Scouts of Northeast Ohio.
Dr. Sam Lee, a analysis engineer supporting the Plane Icing Department, conducts analysis in NASA Glenn’s Icing Analysis Tunnel to check how ice builds up, or accretes, on plane surfaces. The outcomes from the experiments are used to know the physics of how ice accretes on plane throughout flight and to offer the validation information to develop computational instruments to foretell ice accretion. He additionally performs analysis on the results of ice accretion on plane efficiency in aerodynamic wind tunnels. Lee has authored 17 convention papers and journal papers. He has contributed to the event of many future engineers and scientists as a mentor for NASA’s Explorer Scouts program and varied faculty internship packages. Lee has been a part of the Plane Icing Department since 2002.
AIAA will formally honor and induct the category on the AIAA Affiliate Fellows Induction Ceremony and Dinner on Jan. 8, 2025, throughout the 2025 AIAA SciTech Discussion board in Orlando.
