MDA has rebranding itself and will now be known as MDA Space. The changes comes 3 1/2 years after it unveiled the a new logo and reorganized the company.

At the time, MDA Space said the new logo included a graphic element that looks like a rocket plume, once again indicating an onwards and upwards vision, or forward to the future.

This change only adds the word Space to the branding. In a news release Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space said “the addition of Space to our brand is a natural evolution. The core of our brand identity is, and always will be, MDA – the three iconic letters that stand for our 55-year heritage, our more than 450 missions, and our record of firsts. Today, MDA is honoured to have the trust of some of the world’s biggest players and most innovative companies driving the expansion of the global space economy.”

MDA Space has been a beneficiary of a space economy that has seen the rapid growth of satellite constellations in low Earth orbit (LEO). The company has grown to over 3,000 employees.

MDA Space added in the news release they have “invested in one of the world’s most diverse portfolios of proven next-generation space technology, including:”

  • A game-changing new software-defined satellite product that addresses the growing demand for higher performance and cost-effective digital constellations;
  • CHORUS, a fourth-generation Earth observation constellation that builds on the legendary RADARSAT program that will provide market-leading data and insights; and,
  • A new suite of cost-effective, flexible and readily-available commercial space robotics that can serve a variety of missions, leveraging best-in-class technology derived from Canadarm3.

What was not mentioned in the press release is that there are several organizations that use the MDA name. One in particular could cause some confusion. That would be the Missile Defense Agency commonly referred to in the U.S. as MDA.
